ABOUT ME

From a young age I was drawn to photography. As I got a little older I began drawing, and my mom has said that I would cry over not being able to make my drawings look the way I desired. I assume that my fine motor skills had not caught up to my observation skills or creative desire. As a teenager I began painting. I started with working from live models or still lives. I fell in love with the challenge of replicating what was in front of me.

Now I mainly paint landscapes or scenes of buildings that catch my interest. While I do not have any formal training in photography, I am constantly taking photographs of the world around me. I find interest and beauty in everything, and love to translate the photographs into paintings. I want to capture and translate the excitement I feel when I see these things in real life.

What I love about painting is that there is always room to improve one's ability. There will always be more to learn about building forms, color theory, and paint application techniques. In turn, I will always be able to grow as an artist. As someone who loves to solve problems and analyze, I deeply enjoy the process of observing my subject and breaking it down into the building blocks of creating a painting. I strive to find the best way to portray the beauty in what I see around me everyday, and I feel like I learn something new with every piece I do.
